The Norfolk Naval Base has over one hundred ships and shore commands, which makes it the largest naval facility in the United States. This navy base combined with three other major naval bases (NAS Oceana, Little Creek Amphibious Base & Dam Neck Training Facility), two major army forts (Ft. Eustis & Ft. Story), one major air force base (Langley AF Base) and numerous coast guard commands, makes Hampton Roads a military "Mecca".
